LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

February 23, 2007

TO:
Honorable Mike Krusee, Chair, House Committee on Transportation

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB969 by King, Tracy (Relating to certain information related to a peace officer included on the officer's driver's license.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code as it relates to certain information related to a peace officer included on the officer's driver's license.

This bill would add Transportation Code, Section 521.121(c) which would require the Department of Public Safety to substitute the address of a peace officer's duty location for the officer's residential address by a written request of a license holder who is a peace officer. DPS would be required to develop the request form and adopt other rules necessary to implement this bill. The bill would take effect on September 1, 2007.

The Department of Public Safety (DPS) determined that the cost of implementing the provisions of the bill would not be significant. DPS estimated a need for $43,000 in professional service fees in additional programming changes in fiscal year 2008 in order to implement the required changes of the bill. It is assumed that these costs can be absorbed within the agency’s current appropriations.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
