LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

February 16, 2007

TO:
Honorable David Swinford, Chair, House Committee on State Affairs

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1012 by Riddle (Relating to the enforcement of immigration laws by local governments.), As Introduced

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Local Government Code to prohibit local government entities from adopting a policy under which the entity would not fully enforce state or federal laws related to immigrants or immigration.

Local Government Impact

If an entity currently has a policy that would be prohibited by passage of the bill, dropping the policy and fully enforcing the applicable laws could increase enforcement activities, although it is anticipated any increase in costs could be absorbed using existing resources.

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
