LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 22, 2007

TO:
Honorable Dianne White Delisi, Chair, House Committee on Public Health

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1082 by Straus (Relating to a pilot program to require reporting of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) to establish a pilot program to research and implement reporting procedures for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA). The bill would require DSHS to select to administer the pilot of a health authority that demonstrates an interest and possesses adequate resources. It is assumed the fiscal impact of the pilot would not be significant and could be absorbed within the existing budget of DSHS and by the health authority selected to administer the pilot.

The bill would require the executive commissioner of the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) to develop the pilot, by rule. It is assumed the fiscal impact to HHSC would not be significant and could be absorbed within its existing budget.

The pilot would end September 1, 2009.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
