No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Government Code relating to the use by an active peace officer of the officer's rank or status to advertise or promote certain private businesses.

The bill would add Government Code, Chapter 614, Subchapter H, Private Commercial Use of Rank or Status as Peace Officer, which further defines the term "peace officer" and states an active peace officer may not use the peace officer rank or status to advertise or otherwise promote a private business in which the peace officer has ownership or is a manager. A peace officer who violates this section is subject to disciplinary action by the Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education. The bill would take effect on September 1, 2007.

TCLEOSE anticipates no significant fiscal impact from the bill.
