Honorable Rob Eissler, Chair, House Committee on Public Education
FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB1136 by Hochberg (Relating to the assignment of students to classroom teachers.), As Introduced
No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
Beginning in fiscal year 2008, the bill would prohibit students in grade 7 or higher in subjects for which they take an assessment and students in grades Kindergarten through 6 from being assigned for two consecutive school years to a teacher who either has less than one year of teaching experience or who does not hold the appropriate certificate issued by the State Board for Educator Certification.
Local Government Impact
To the extent that school districts would need to hire additional teachers or more experienced teachers under the provisions of the bill, additional local cost could be incurred.
