LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 14, 2007

TO:
Honorable Rodney Ellis, Chair, Senate Committee on Government Organization

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1164 by Gallego (Relating to the presentation of Star of Texas awards to federal law enforcement officers and special agents who are killed or sustain serious or fatal injuries while assisting state or local law enforcement agencies in this state.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require that all federal law enforcement officers and special agents who are seriously injured in the line of duty or the surviving next of kin of those killed or those that sustain serious fatal injuries in the line of duty receive the Star of Texas Award.

The bill would take effect immediately upon receiving a two-thirds majority vote in both houses; otherwise, the bill would take effect September 1, 2007.

It is assumed that duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be covered using existing resources. Therefore, no significant fiscal impact to the state is anticipated.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
