FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB1222 by Goolsby (Relating to the use by a county of certain fees for the management, protection, and preservation of records.), As Engrossed
No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Local Government Code to authorize expanded use of a county's records archive fees. In addition, in Dallas County, the records archive fees and the records management and preservation fees could be used for prevention of identity theft by redacting information in a record, as authorized or required by law.
Local Government Impact
Expanding the use of fees would help offset costs associated with activities for protecting documents and the information contained in documents. The fiscal impact would vary by county depending on the available amount of fees collected and how many records require redacting.
