LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 9, 2007

TO:
Honorable Harvey Hilderbran, Chair, House Committee on Culture, Recreation, & Tourism

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1334 by Homer (Relating to the use of crossbows by certain individuals. ), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Parks and Wildlife Code to allow anyone to hunt using a crossbow during the archery-only open season. The bill may result in a positive revenue implication to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department as the bill would allow previously excluded individuals to use crossbows during the special archery-only season (under current law, only those with upper limb disability can use a crossbow to hunt). To the extent the bill would result in new revenues from persons purchasing licenses who otherwise would not have engaged in hunting, no significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would take effect September 1, 2007.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
