LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 12, 2007

TO:
Honorable Harvey Hilderbran, Chair, House Committee on Culture, Recreation, & Tourism

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1334 by Homer (Relating to the use of crossbows by certain individuals.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Parks and Wildlife Code to allow hunters at least 65 years of age to use crossbows during the archery only open season. According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) the bill would result in a positive revenue implication because the bill would allow a previously excluded group of people (those at least 65 of age) to use crossbows during the special archery only season, which would attract persons that otherwise would not have engaged in hunting.  To the extent revenue gains would result from passage of the bill, the fiscal implication to the State is not anticipated to be significant.  The bill would take effect September 1, 2007.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
