LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

February 28, 2007

TO:
Honorable Fred Hill, Chair, House Committee on Local Government Ways & Means

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1397 by Howard, Charlie (Relating to the inclusion in a notice of appraised value of information regarding ad valorem tax exemptions.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require the following statement: "The property described in this notice may qualify for residence homestead or other exemptions. You may contact the appraisal district to request
exemption application forms and apply at no charge" to be included in property reappraisal notices.

The bill could affect state funding of the Foundation School Program to the extent that homeowners would apply for homestead exemptions for which they otherwise would not have applied.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
