No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend statute and provide that the attorney general, in addition to local officials, may receive reports of unlawful voting and may receive affidavits alleging criminal conduct in an election and conduct an investigation pursuant to the allegations made in the affidavit. It is assumed that any additional costs associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing state resources.

The bill would take effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house; otherwise, the bill would take effect September 1, 2007.


Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
