IN RE:
HB1586 by Flores (Relating to the creation of the offense of illumination of an aircraft by intense light.), As Introduced
No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend Chapter 42, Penal Code, by creating as an offense the act of intentionally directing toward an aircraft a laser pointer or other light source that is sufficiently intense to impair the operator's ability to control the aircraft. Directing the light toward an aircraft would be a Class C misdemeanor. If the intensity of the light were to impair the operator's ability to control the aircraft, it would be a Class A misdemeanor.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
