LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 14, 2007

TO:
Honorable Patrick M. Rose, Chair, House Committee on Human Services

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1633 by Geren (Relating to the certification of eligibility for Medicaid for certain persons in the armed forces and their family members.), As Introduced

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill requires the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) to adopt rules that ensure that documentation and verification procedures used in determining and certifying the eligibility and need for medical assistance of a person who is on active duty as a member of the armed forces of the United States or the state military forces, or of the spouse or dependent of such a person, be expedited in the same manner as the procedures used to determine and certify the eligibility of a person for emergency medical assistance are expedited.

HHSC indicates that they do not currently have emergency medical assistance; therefore, the bill would not impact the eligibility determination process and would have no fiscal impact.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
