LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 18, 2007

TO:
Honorable Jane Nelson, Chair, Senate Committee on Health & Human Services

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1633 by Geren (Relating to the determination of eligibility for Medicaid for certain persons in the armed forces and their family members.), Committee Report 2nd House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill requires the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) to develop and implement an expedited process for determining eligibility for and enrollment in Medicaid for persons on active duty as a member of the United States armed forces, reserves, or National Guard or of the state military forces, or the spouse or dependent of such a person.

HHSC indicates that any cost to modify automated systems, develop new policies and procedures, and train eligibility staff on the new process can be absorbed within available resources. HHSC indicates that any impact to client services or eligibility workload would be minimal.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
