LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 14, 2007

TO:
Honorable Vicki Truitt, Chair, House Committee on Pensions & Investments

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1689 by Davis, Yvonne (Relating to the selection of certain members of the board of trustees of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would reduce the number of Teacher Retirement System (TRS) Board of Trustees members appointed by the Governor from nine to five. The four board positions no longer appointed by the Governor under the provisions of the bill would be filled by direct election by various subgroups of TRS members and retirees. Since TRS already conducts elections for these positions in order to provide lists of three candidates per position from which the Governor selects appointees, no significant fiscal impact is anticipated associated with the changes contemplated by the bill.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
