IN RE:	HB1767 by Pena (Relating to the punishment for criminal mischief committed by interfering with certain transportation signs, signals, or devices.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

This bill would amend the Penal Code by creating a penalty for damaging, destroying, or tampering with a transportation communications device or equipment.  Under the provision of this bill damaging, destroying, or tampering with transportation communications device or equipment would be a third-degree felony.  This bill would take effect September 1, 2007 and apply only to a defendant charged with an offense committed on or after the effective date of the Act.

 

It is assumed that the number of persons convicted under this statute would not result in a significant impact on the programs and workload of state corrections agencies or on the demand for resources and services of those agencies.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
