No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would create the Alcohol Awareness Study Committee (committee) as an interim committee to study laws and regulations relating to alcohol-related offenses, alcohol awareness, and treatment for alcohol dependency, and recommend methods to decrease the incidence of alcohol abuse in Texas. The bill would require the committee to submit a report of its findings and recommendations to the Lieutenant Governor, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the Governor by January 15, 2009. The bill would provide that reimbursement for committee member expenses are to be paid in equal amounts from accounts of the Senate and House.
