LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 19, 2007

TO:
Honorable Mike Krusee, Chair, House Committee on Transportation

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1949 by Villarreal (Relating to a study by the Texas Department of Transportation regarding the relocation or improvement of a railroad.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to complete and release the results of any study regarding the relocation or improvement of a railroad located in or near a county with a population of less than 1.4 million and in which a municipality with a population of more than one million is located.

Based on the analysis of TxDOT, it is assumed any costs or duties associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.

The bill would take effect immediately upon receiving a vote of two-thirds of all members elected to each house or otherwise on September 1, 2007.

Local Government Impact

Because the bill would not have statewide impact on units of local government of the same type or class, no comment from this office is required by the rules of the House/Senate as to its probable fiscal implication on units of local government.
