No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to authorize a police officer in a municipality with a population of 60,000 or more, any part of which is located in a county with a population of 750,000 or more and in two or more counties with a combined population of one million or more to be eligible to apply for certification to enforce commercial motor vehicle safety standards.

The Department of Public Safety (DPS) is responsible for certifying police officers for enforcing commercial motor vehicle safety standards. DPS recovers its costs from the municipality or county that employs the officers; therefore, there would be no fiscal impact to the state.

Local Government Impact

Applicable local governments would incur training costs.

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
