LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 11, 2007

TO:
Honorable Robert Duncan, Chair, Senate Committee on State Affairs

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2250 by Van Arsdale (Relating to the costs of holding certain joint elections.), As Engrossed

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Local Government Impact

The bill would limit the expenses paid by the independent school districts in Harris county for the costs of a joint election with the county to a total of 150 percent of the cost incurred by the school district in the most recent general election for school trustees that was held as a separate election.  The effect of the cost limitation on school districts would vary among the school districts affected by the bill.  It is assumed that election costs incurred by Harris County could increase somewhat if costs allocated to a particular school district for a joint election exceeded the limitation applicable to the school district under this bill.
