IN RE:
HB2311 by Rose (Relating to the penalty for the offense of reckless driving.), As Introduced
No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Transportation Code to increase the punishment level for an offense of reckless driving. Under current statute, the punishment is a fine not to exceed $200, confinement in county jail for not more than 30 days, or both. If the reckless driving were to result in serious bodily injury or death of a person in another motor vehicle, the proposed change in statute would increase the fine to up to $700 and jail time to up to 60 days, plus up to a 30-day suspension of the defendant's driver's license. If a person were to be placed on community supervision, the judge would be authorized to also order the defendant to attend and present proof of successfully completing an educational course related to the attitudinal dynamics of driving.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
