FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB2504 by Eissler (Relating to an intensive mathematics and algebra intervention program in public schools.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would require the Commissioner of Education to establish an intensive mathematics intervention program for students not performing at grade level in mathematics in grades 4 through 7. Campuses who participate in the intervention would be required to use screening and diagnostic assessments approved by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). The bill would require TEA to submit a report on student progress to the legislature by December 31, 2008. The agency estimates a cost of $100,000 associated with the reporting requirement.
Local Government Impact
The cost of participation in the intervention program established by the bill would be borne by local school districts.
