Honorable Jeff Wentworth, Chair, Senate Committee on Jurisprudence
FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB2617 by Guillen (Relating to the creation of municipal courts of record in the city of Laredo.), As Engrossed
No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would add Subchapter WW to Chapter 30 of the Government Code to create the municipal court of record in regards to the judge and clerk positions in the city of Laredo.
The bill would take effect immediately upon enactment, assuming that it received the requisite two-thirds majority votes in both houses of the legislature; otherwise, it would take effect September 1, 2007.
Local Government Impact
Currently, the city of Laredo does not have a municipal court of record in regards to the judge and clerk positions. The bill would allow Laredo to consider the creation of a court of record. The salaries for a municipal judge and clerk are presently included in the city budget. There would be no additional cost to the city of Laredo if the bill were to pass.
