LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 11, 2007

TO:
Honorable John Carona, Chair, Senate Committee on Transportation & Homeland Security

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2627 by Murphy (Relating to the requirements for the issuance of certain specialty license plates.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to decrease the number of presold plates and the amount of the monetary deposit to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) required for issuing collegiate and professional sports team specialty license plates authorized on or after September 1, 2004, and all specialty license plates authorized on or after January 1, 1999. The bill would amend the Transportation Code to specify that money deposited with TxDOT for a specialty plate shall be returned to the person who made the deposit after 1,900 sets of the applicable license plates are issued rather than 3,500 sets under current law.

Based on the analysis of TxDOT, it is assumed the provisions of the bill would not result in a significant impact to the state.

The bill would take effect on September 1, 2007.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
