TO: | Honorable Mike Krusee, Chair, House Committee on Transportation |
FROM: | John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board |
IN RE: | HB2652 by Harless (Relating to application of certain law relating to the regulation of certain motor vehicle manufacturers, converters, distributors, and dealers and enforcement of motor vehicle warranties.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted |
The bill would amend the section of the Occupations Code relating to the rights of vehicle owners with respect to warranties to include in the defintion of "owner" persons who have registered their vehicles in Texas and active duty members of the military who are stationed in Texas or were stationed in Texas at time of the commencement of a "Lemon Law" proceeding.
Based on the analysis of the Texas Department of Transportation, it is assumed any costs or duties associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.
The bill would take effect immediately upon receiving a vote of two-thirds of all members elected to each house or otherwise on September 1, 2007.
