No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Penal Code as it relates to the prosecution of criminal nonsupport. Under the provision of the bill a person knowingly fails to provide support for the individual's child if the individual or entity designated in the court order to initially receive the child support payment has not received the payment on or before the due date specified by the court order.
This bill would take effect September 1, 2007 and apply only to an offense committed on or after the effective date.
