LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 8, 2007

TO:
Honorable Robert Duncan, Chair, Senate Committee on State Affairs

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2870 by Truitt (Relating to member contributions to certain retirement, disability, and death benefit systems provided by certain cities and towns.), As Engrossed

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Article 6243k, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes, to require each member of a retirement, disability, and death benefit system provided under the article in a city or town that meets certain criteria to contribute an amount determined by the city or town that may exceed 10 percent of the annual compensation paid to the member by the city or town.

The bill would take effect September 1, 2007.

Local Government Impact

Based on the criteria in the bill and on the 2000 U.S. Census, the provisions of the bill would apply only to the City of Fort Worth.

Because the bill would not have statewide impact on units of local government of the same type or class, no comment from this office is required by the rules of the House/Senate as to its probable fiscal implication on units of local government.
