May 9, 2007

TO:
Honorable Leticia Van de Putte, Chair, Senate Committee on Veteran Affairs & Military Installations

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2896 by Flynn (Relating to an award for certain members of the state military forces and civilians for superior service.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Government Code by adding that the Adjutant General's Department (AGD) may add an award named the Texas Superior Service Medal for a member of the state military forces or a civilian who has contributed significant service to the state military forces. The bill includes criteria for determining the recipient of the Texas Superior Service Medal.

The Adjutant General's Department estimates the cost for the new Texas Superior Service Medal for the first year to be $4,695 ($4,425 to design the award and $270 for 30 awards medal and ribbon set). The estimated cost for the subsequent years is $270 and is based on presenting 30 awards each year. The Adjutant General’s Department has determined that the costs associated with implementing the bill are not anticipated to be significant and could be absorbed with current resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
