The bill would amend the Occupations Code relating to the funding for the continuing education of certain peace officers.
The bill would amend the Occupations Code, Section 1701which would require local law enforcement agencies to report to the comptroller not later than November 1 of the preceding calendar year to be eligible for an allocation of money under Occupations Code, Section 1701.157 (a). The bill requires that the report should include the number of agency positions reserved or filled as January 1 of the calendar year covered by the report. The report should also include the percentage of any money received and used by the agency by the agency during the calendar year proceeding the calendar year covered by the report and the number of training hours received through the use of any money received by the agency. The bill requires the agency to comply with all applicable laws regarding the use of any money received by the agency in the calendar year proceeding the calendar year covered by the report. The bill would apply to allocations made on or after January 1, 2008 for expenses incurred by local law enforcement agencies during the calendar year 2007. The bill would take effect on September 1, 2007.
The Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education and the Comptroller of Public Accounts state that the provisions in the bill would have no significant fiscal impact to their agencies.
