LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 3, 2007

TO:
Honorable Geanie Morrison, Chair, House Committee on Higher Education

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB3324 by Escobar (Relating to financial aid.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would create the Math/Science Teacher Preparation grant program,  aimed at increasing the number of math and science teachers in Texas K-12 schools. The bill does not indicate the source or amount of funds for this new financial aid math/science teacher preparation grant program. Assuming that 50 students would qualify for the grants with an average award of $5,000 per year, the Higher Education Coordinating Board estimates the program would cost $250,000 per year.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
