FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 9, 2007

TO:
Honorable Geanie Morrison, Chair, House Committee on Higher Education

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB3449 by Rose (Relating to the imposition of an intercollegiate athletics fee at Texas State University--San Marcos.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Education Code to establish a intercollegiate athletics fee at the Texas State University System-San Marcos. Under provisions of the bill, the Texas State University System Board of Regents is authorized to impose an intercollegiate athletics fee on each student enrolled at Texas State University-San Marcos. The fee could not be imposed unless approved by a majority vote of students of the institution who participate in a general student election held at the institution for that purpose. The amount of revenue generated by the authorized fee, would depend on the fee amount assessed by the university and could increase with enrollment growth.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
