April 15, 2007

TO:
Honorable Jerry Madden, Chair, House Committee on Corrections

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB3526 by Homer (Relating to certain discretionary grants made to community supervisions and corrections departments from the community justice assistance division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Government Code by adding criteria for receiving discretionary grant funds for basic supervision probation for the community justice assistance division (CJAD) of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ). The bill adds for consideration of discretionary grants the expansion of an existing departmental program that is designed to reduce recidivism among probationers.

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice has determined that the costs associated with implementing the bill are not anticipated to be significant.

Local Government Impact

A community supervision and corrections department may see additional funds from the department if they are chosen for the funds or if they  submit a successful application for the funds.
