TO: | Honorable John Whitmire, Chair, Senate Committee on Criminal Justice |
FROM: | John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board |
IN RE: | HB3585 by Pena (Relating to the provision of a computerized victim notification system to certain state agencies and to counties.), As Engrossed |
The bill would amend the Code of Criminal Procedure and require the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) to operate the Statewide Automated Victim Notification System (SAVNS) through a service contract with a third party (vendor) and would allow counties and state agencies access to the system without having to contract directly with the vendor. In addition, the bill would require the SAVNS to provide information on court proceedings and status (release, transfer, escape) of offenders. It is assumed that any additional costs associated with implementation of the bill could be absorbed within existing state resources.
