HB3635 by Turner (Relating to procedures to limit the carrying of handguns by persons other than peace officers on certain premises used for law enforcement. ), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Government Code to authorize a peace officer to temporarily disarm a licensed holder when that person enters a nonpublic, secure portion of a law enforcement facility that is used for official business of peace officers, if the agency provides a gun locker where the gun can be secured. The law enforcement agency would be required to prominently post signs to notify license holders. The bill would take effect September 1, 2007.
