The bill would amend the Transportation Code relating to the requirements of commercial drivers.
The bill would amend Transportation Code, Chapter 521 which provides procedures to the Department of Public Safety (DPS) regarding commercial driver license disqualification. The bill updates the definition of the terms "conviction" and "hazardous materials" under Transportation Code, Chapter 522. The bill also states the general application requirements for a commercial driver licenses including issuance and fee collection. The bill provides procedures for cancelling or denying a commercial driver license hazardous materials endorsement. The bill also states procedures for the denial of renewal for a commercial driver license due to a violation of state law or local ordinances relating to traffic control. The bill establishes when DPS can reinstate a person's commercial driver license. The bill would take effect on September 1, 2007.
DPS anticipates no significant fiscal impact to the agency.
