LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

February 7, 2007

TO:
Honorable John Carona, Chair, Senate Committee on Transportation & Homeland Security

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB153 by Wentworth (Relating to the creation of an offense involving the supervision of a vehicle operator holding an instruction permit.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Section 521.222, Transportation Code, by creating as an offense if, while a holder of a driver instruction permit is driving, a licensed driver accompanying the permit holder sleeps, is intoxicated, or engages in an activity that prevents the licensed driver from observing and responding to the holder's actions.

It is assumed that any costs associated with enforcement would be absorbed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
