IN RE:
SB161 by Wentworth (Relating to intercollegiate athletics fees at institutions within the Texas State University System. ), As Passed 2nd House
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
Under provisions of the bill, the Texas State University System may impose on each student enrolled at each student enrolled at a component institution of the Texas State University System an intercollegiate athletics fee. A separate section specifies that the Texas State University System can also impose the fee on each student enrollled at Texas State University-San Marcos. The fee would be $8.75 per semester credit hour for each regular semester and $4.50 per semester credit hour for each summer session. The amount of the fee could not be increased by 10% or more unless the increase has been approved by a majority vote of students. An intercollegiate athletics fee committee would also be established. The Texas State University System has indicated that each component institution that plans on charging the Intercollegiate Athletics Fee would reduce the Student Services Fee by an equal amount so the new fee would be revenue neutral.
Local Government Impact
No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
