LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 8, 2007

TO:
Honorable John Carona, Chair, Senate Committee on Transportation & Homeland Security

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB174 by Shapiro (Relating to the regulation of the sale of certain mobility motor vehicles equipped to transport a person with a disability.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to authorize independent mobility motor vehicle dealers to acquire and sell certain types of mobility vehicles in Texas. The bill would require the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to license and provide General Distinguishing Numbers to independent mobility motor vehicle dealers.

Based on the analysis of TxDOT, it is assumed the duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources.

The bill would take effect immediately upon receiving a vote of two-thirds of all members elected to each house or otherwise on September 1, 2007.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
