LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

February 20, 2007

TO:
Honorable Royce West, Chair, Senate Committee on Intergovernmental Relations

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB207 by Ellis (Relating to application of the minimum wage to certain governmental entities.), As Introduced

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Section 62.0515, Labor Code, to authorize a county or municipality to establish a minimum wage greater than the federal minimum wage.

Local Government Impact

If a county or a municipality were to establish a minimum wage greater than the federal minimum wage, the cost to the governmental entity would depend on the amount of the increase established and the number of employees whose wages would increase accordingly.
