LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 5, 2007

TO:
Honorable Judith Zaffirini, Chair, Senate Committee on S/C on Higher Education

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB211 by Fraser (Relating to the student enrollment required for certain university system centers to operate as general academic teaching institutions.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Education Code to lower the enrollment threshold for Texas A&M University - Central Texas System Center in Killeen, Texas A&M University - San Antonio and the University of North Texas at Dallas to operate as general academic teaching institution by changing the methodology by which the students are calculated. The methodolgy in the bill would calculate the 1,000 full-time students threshold per academic year, defined as the fall and spring semesters and the summer session of the academic year. Current statute calculates the 1,000 full-time students for one semester.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
