No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Business & Commerce Code to require all persons, including governmental entities, who conduct business in this state and that own or license computerized data that includes sensitive personal information to disclose as soon as possible any breach of computer system security or the loss of sensitive personal information. The bill would also require the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) to create and maintain a registry that is open to the public and must be published on the OAG website. It is assumed that any additional costs associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.
