April 27, 2007

TO:
Honorable John Whitmire, Chair, Senate Committee on Criminal Justice

FROM:

IN RE:
SB230 by Harris (Relating to the notification required when public school students who engage in certain criminal conduct transfer to a new school.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Article 15.27(c) of the Code of Criminal Procedure to specify that the superintendent or his designee shall be notified by the juvenile probation or parole officer when a student transfers to a school other than the one he was enrolled in at the time of his arrest, referral to juvenile court, conviction, or adjudication. The superintendent of a public school or the principal of a private school to which the student transfers would promptly notify instructional and support staff that have regular contact with the student.
