IN RE: | SB295 by Williams (Relating to the administration of polygraph examinations to certain commissioned officers and noncommissioned employees of the Department of Public Safety.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted |
This bill would amend the Government Code as it relates to the administration of polygraph examinations to certain commissioned officers and employees of the Department of Public Safety (DPS).
The bill would add Government Code, Section 411.00741, which could require DPS commissioned or noncommissioned officers or employees to take a polygraph examination if the officer or employee works on national security issues with a federal agency and if polygraph examinations are required by the federal agency. The bill also states that DPS could remove or refuse an assignment from agency commissioned officers and noncommissioned employees who do not submit a polygraph examination required for a position involving work with a federal agency on national security issues.
The bill would take effect on September 1, 2007.
DPS states that there would be a minimal operational costs associated with implementing the provisions of the bill; therefore costs would not be significant.
