LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 29, 2007

TO:
Honorable David Dewhurst, Lieutenant Governor, Senate

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB699 by Carona (Relating to the use of only parts of driver's license and social security numbers in certain court documents.), As Passed 2nd House

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Civil Practice and Remedies Code to require in a civil action filed in a district court, county court, or statutory county court, that each party or their attorney include in the initial pleading the last three numbers of the party's driver's license number if the party has been issued a driver's license and the last three numbers of the party's social security number if the party has been issued a social security number. The court would be authorized to order an initial pleading to be amended if the information is not included in the pleading, and could find a party in contempt if the party does not amend the pleading.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
