LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 13, 2007

TO:
Honorable Florence Shapiro, Chair, Senate Committee on Education

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB786 by Wentworth (relating to the mitigation of the impact of residential development in public school districts. ), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The Texas Education Agency estimates that it likely would need to allocate staff time to review district requests for the determination of impact regarding new residential developments.  However, the agency is expected to be able to absorb this cost with existing resources.

Local Government Impact

School districts with successful requests could benefit from the ability to purchase property in order to handle increased elementary student enrollment.
