No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Health and Safety Code to change the length of time a person may be detained in custody by a mental health facility for a preliminary mental health examination. Current statute for the time period is 24 hours; provisions of the bill would increase the maximum allowable time to 48 hours.
The bill would take effect September 1, 2007.
