IN RE:
SB1068 by Wentworth (Relating to the reapportionment of congressional districts and the creation, function, and duties of the Texas Congressional Redistricting Commission.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

This bill would add a new chapter to Title 3 of the Government Code, relating to the reapportionment of congressional districts and the creation, function, and duties of the Texas Congressional Redistricting Commission.

The bill would establish the nine-member commission, eligibility and conflict of interest provisions for commission members, duties of the commission, and requirements for the redistricting plan.

The bill would direct the Legislature to make an appropriation sufficient for the compensation and payment of expenses of the commission members and any staff employed by the commission. The bill would direct the Texas Legislative Council to provide the necessary technical staff and clerical services to the commission.

Any additional fiscal impact could be absorbed within existing resources since the Legislative Council currently provides the same services to the legislature.
