SB1198 by Shapiro (Relating to the civil commitment of sexually violent predators.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Health and Safety Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure relating to the civil commitment of sexually violent predators.  The bill would provide that an assigned judge in civil commitment proceedings is not subject to most objections, as described.  The bill would clarify that local prosecutors can seek assistance from the Special Prosecution Unit of Walker County in civil commitment cases.  The bill would create an offense for failing to comply with a civil commitment requirement.  To the extent the bill would change court procedures regarding civil commitments, no significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would take effect September 1, 2007.


Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
