IN RE:	SB1390 by Uresti (Relating to rental of a vehicle to a member of the armed forces; providing a civil penalty.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend statute and provide that a vehicle rental company may not refuse to rent to a person because of age or because that person does not have a valid credit or debit card if that person presents a valid military identification card indicating that the person is a member of the United States armed forces.

 

A rental company that violates this section is liable to the state for a civil penalty of not more than $1,000.00 for each violation. The Office of the Attorney General is authorized to bring suit to recover the civil penalty.

 

The Office of the Attorney General indicates that new investigations and cases may arise from complaints to the Consumer Protection and Public Health Division, however it is anticipated that any additional costs could be absorbed within current resources.
