LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 18, 2007

TO:
Honorable Florence Shapiro, Chair, Senate Committee on Education

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1456 by Uresti (relating to the information and training for public school educators in the prevention of child abuse. ), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to maintain links to web sites that provide information regarding child abuse prevention on its website, which the agency indicates could be accomplished with existing resources.

The bill would require TEA to develop and update a training program on child abuse prevention that school districts could use for staff development.  TEA estimates the cost of developing the training at $88,000 in FY2008.  Updating the training in subsequent years could be managed with existing agency resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
